Biography
Aaron Rockers, upon moving to New York in 2007 , has established himself as a bandleader and formidable sideman in the diverse NYC music scene. Rooted in classical trumpet and later developing a love for improvistation, trumpeter Aaron Rockers navigates effortlessly between numerous styles, from avant-garde to jazz to reggae to afrobeat. As a master’s of music candidate in NYU Jazz Studies Program, Aaron performed with seminal jazz greats such as Joe Lovano, Kenny Werner, and Brian Lynch, and also studying composition with Jim McNeely and Jean Michel-Pilc.
In 2010, Aaron released Bold Maneuver, his first solo album as a composer and bandleader. Supported by Nicholas Myers on Tenor Sax, Douglas Bradford on Guitar, Peter Schwebs on Bass, and Nick Anderson on Drums, Bold Maneuver is an album of original music inspired by classic hard bop, groove based jams, and ethereal ballads.
Aaron is very busy in the NYC music scene. He is a founding member of Zongo Junction, a Brooklyn based Afrobeat band, whose reputation grows everytime they throw a great dance party. In November 2010, Zongo Junction recorded there first album, highlighted by shows at Nublu, Brooklyn Bowl, and Le Poission Rouge.
He also performs with one of NYC’s greatest reggae bands, Meta and the Cornerstones. Meta and The Cornerstones are consistently playing high-profile shows in the NYC area. Aaron also plays in Brother Joscephus and the Love Revival Revolution Orchestra, a traditional soul jam band based out of Brooklyn. Aaron also performs with the funk outfit Juicebox and the indie rock band Emanuel and the Fear.
In addition to being a busy performer, Aaron also co-operates a video production company called AV-WebPro. Specializing in video promotion and publicity, AV-WebPro provides video services and promotion assistance for NYC Jazz musicians.
