The new Ex-Ray’s Album
This past summer I was fortunate enough to play some trumpet on a couple select tracks on the new Ex-Ray’s Album. The band is led by my cousin Jon Berson, and it was a real pleasure to be part of this beautiful record from the future. This is lo-fi record is a treat, you can read more here.
Exray’s slips through the genre cracks and past the time bandits to deliver an eclectic new voice. Jon Bernson and Michael Falsetto-Mapp specialize in lo-fi grime, undeniable songs and man versus machine experimentation. Throw in some precarious beats, voice mail vocals, plenty of short-circuited melodies and you have undusted pop gems for an imperfect future.
A few Exray’s songs have already surfaced. ‘Hesitation’ was tapped by Director David Fincher for use in ‘The Social Network,’ his major motion picture about the founding of Facebook (10.1.10). Secret Seven Records grabbed an Exray’s song for their ‘In a Cloud’ compilation, which features many of San Francisco’s finest: The Fresh & Only’s, Thee Oh Sees, Sonny and the Sunsets, Grass Widow, Kelley Stoltz, Sandwitches and more.
‘Ammunition Teeth’ (debut cassette EP) comes out on 10.12.10. Exray’s vinyl LP will arrive on 1.21.11 (details soon). A number of talented friends appear on both recordings, most notably Nate Query (Decemberists), Tim Cohen (The Fresh and Onlys), Warren Huegel (Citay, Jonas Reinhardt), Jason Kick (Maus Haus) and Dominic Cramp (Evangelista).
